With big data, comes big responsibility. As more organizations adapt data driven approaches, greater awareness is needed in how data should be managed to reduce risk and comply with regulatory standards. It’s a general expectation that sensitive and personal information will be kept private and confidential. It’s also expected that organizations know and understand key policies, regulations, and laws that guide the use of data. These include things such as HIPAA, Safe Harbor, and PCI Standards in the US, and coming soon to Europe, GDPR. Maintaining information securely, using it appropriately, and ensuring that transparency exists is good business. In this session, we will explore these topics and how we, as responsible data professionals, play a role in applying these themes to managing and providing data.
